Elwing's Guide by Éowyn

Elwing looked down from the willow tree she was sitting in. Her long brown hair fell forward and her baby blue eyes danced with excitement as a young man stood below her looking in all directions. A joyful smile spread across her face and she laughed aloud.
"Mae Govannen Aravir." she cried happily. Aravir looked up and a smile slowly appeared on his face. He held out his arms and Elwing jumped down to him. Aravir spun her and kissed the she-elf gently.
"How are you my love?" he said brushing her hair back.
"I am fine." said Elwing, still smiling. "Are you ready to meet my parents?"
"Yes. We will go right now." Aravir put her down and turned his head. He whistled and a majestic grey stallion came trotting over to him. Picking up Elwing he put her on the horse and then jumped on himself. Stealing a kiss Aravir kicked the horse gently and they rode off to meet Elwing's parents, Cirdan and Idril of Imladris. Elwing and Aravir arrived at her home just as the sun was starting to set. Taking a deep breath she stepped inside with Aravir right behind her holding her hand.
"Adda..." Elwing called. Cirdan came into the room with Idril.
"Yes?" he asked softly. Elwing sighed looked at Aravir and spoke.
"This is Aravir... he will be my husband." A long moment of silence passed before Cirdan said anything. However when he finally did speak again they weren't the words that Elwing or Aravir had expected.
"BAW!" he shouted his voice thundering through out the home. "My daughter will not be wed to a mortal. BAW!" Cirdan turned on his heel and left, anger raging inside of him. Idril stood for a moment not saying anything. She walked over to Aravir and looked him in the eyes.
"I am sure you are a wonderful man." she said sweetly. "But when you die Elwing will be alone. We don't want to see her suffer. I think it's in everyone's best interest if you would leave." Idril turned and hurried after Cirdan. Elwing was now in tears and Aravir was in shock. He turned to face him and wiped her tears away. This was not at all what they had expected.
"I don't know if it means anything but if my parents were alive they would have loved you." said Aravir. Kissing Elwing gently on the forehead, he started to walk away. Stopping he looked at her again. "Don't worry... we'll think of something." then he walked away.
The rest of the evening Elwing spent screaming and fighting with her parents especially her father. It seemed hopeless to get him to understand. Breaking out in tears again Elwing dashed to her room and shut the door. She flung herself on her bed and wept for over an hour. Now the night had veiled the sky and Elwing could no longer cry. Walking over to the window she looked out up at the countless stars in the sky. Drying her eyes she thought about the events that had just taken place and began to think about Lúthien and Beren's love.
"Oh Lúthien show me what to do... help my father understand and accept Aravir. Please." Elwing sat at the window for a few hours after just looking out into the night when she heard a soft voice calling out to her.
"Go to him..." Elwing stood up and looked around in her room. No one was there. Then she looked back outside. She saw a she-elf. A glowing light surrounded the woman. This was the most beautiful elf that Elwing had ever laid eyes on.
"Go to him. Look for him and all will END well," the elf said warmly.
"Lúthien," Elwing said softly. Getting up Elwing snuck out of her room and out of the house. She prepared a horse and rode off into the night. Elwing called for Aravir riding slowly frantically searching for him, but Elwing would not find him. Hearing a noise Elwing turned her head just in time to see orcs fly down upon her to attack. Aravir had made a camp site for the night. He couldn't sleep. All he could do was think about Elwing.
"She needs your help." Aravir jumped up. A female voice startled him. He looked by his horse and saw a she-elf standing there. His eyes narrowed and he walked over.
"What?" he questioned.
"Elwing needs you go to her before it's to late." said the elf again. Not thinking Aravir prepared his horse and got on. He looked on the ground but the she elf had disappeared. Shaking his head he rode off in search for his only love. Hearing curses and shouts of pain to his west side Aravir turned the horse and rode over. Orcs came into the distance and so did Elwing fighting them off. Rage filled Aravir's heart and he pulled out his only sword. He rode over and quickly sliced off the orcs head and trampled them under foot. Leaping off his stallion he ran to Elwing. She stood weakly her head was bleeding and fear in her eyes. He made it to her just as she collapsed. Warm tears filled his eyes and he brought her to his horse. Then with great haste rode back to her home. Days passed and finally Elwing awoke from her long sleep. Aravir sat right beside her bed holding her hand.
"Where are we?" she asked.
"You're home," he replied gently. Relief filled flooded over him and he helped Elwing stand up. At that moment Cirdan and Idril came in the room. With a smile Idril pushed Cirdan over to Aravir and Elwing. Cirdan grunted and cleared his throat. Standing up straight he took Elwing's and Aravir's hands.
"You saved my daughter's life and brought her back home instead of running... You have proven worthy of her love." He placed her hand in his then turned and quickly left. Idril smiled at the two and then followed Cirdan without a word.
Elwing wrapped her arms around Aravir and he did the same. Elwing gazed out the window and saw Lúthien standing outside once more. But this time a man stood behind her, Beren. He had his arms wrapped around her waist and both seemed happy. After another moment Lúthien and Beren disappeared and Elwing looked into Aravir's eyes.
"I'm so glad you are alright." said Aravir giving her a kiss.
"It all ended well." said Elwing smiling.
