Round 3

Theme: The Passing of the Elves

Entries 3:

By Burbo Baggins:

The stars are shining, but fading fast
Whisper mournful songs of ages past
The land has become forlorn
White shores call to the first born

They pass in darkness of night
to set sail at dawn's first light
Bright stars shine upon their fair brows
The light upholds their elven vows

Their lament echoes in the dark
it saddens the young morning lark
who used to sing with joy and blithe
as the elves danced with grace and lithe

Their young, fair skin never to wizen
Their ships disappear in the horizon
The boats will travel long and far
following the dimming star

---

By Telturwen:

Unspoken trust upon tender wish,
With the sweet caresses of lovers’ lips,
Would wordlessly be wisped away,
In a gentle breeze before decay.

A gemstone tear would flaw the skin,
Thus none are shed for mortal kin.
Satins drape o’er opal flesh,
Not unlike that which soon will thresh.

Their passing leaves a shallow wake,
As rain drops ripple tranquil lake,
And the melody, so saccharine,
Nestles sorrow of the unforeseen.

Broken hearts, they journey on,
In search of peace and rest and song.
Shall those who weep begin anew,
A haven for they who’ve met their due?

O! Blessed Ones, such torment left,
As blood is drained long after death.
So hence from here they abdicate,
For promise is lost on ruined fate.

---

by Dhodrimme:

Crystalline tears upon alabaster skin

Features fairer than any once had been

Stole the breath from mortal being

As was witnessed such graceful fleeing

Oh wails of sorrow would I give

To see the fairest who have lived

Like a mist through forests pass

Seeking the shore, the sea of glass

What eerie melody they slowly sang

Through the forest their voices rang

And in that moment the Graceful passed

Seeking to sail across a sea so vast

Now never more their voices heard

Now never more their noble word

For to every forest and every kingdom

The passing of the Elves had come…
